Adele Pennington, Mountaineer and Motivational Speaker talks of her expedition to Ecuador.
On the 15th December Adele set off to Ecuador equipped with her Meindl Boots and New Gregory Inyo 35 litre rucksack. For the first few days Adele trekked up Ilalo (3200m), Guagua Pichincha (4687m) and Ruco Pichincha (4784m). These are all day hikes from the capital Quito.
Adele comments on her Bramwell kit: “the Meindl softline boots provided to be an excellent footwear choice for the day, and as a day pack the Gregory Inyo was superb. Lightweight and comfortable with enough compression straps to ensure when only carrying a small amount of equipment, the rucksack was compact.” After this three day acclimatisation phase, Iliiniza Norte (5016m) was the chosen climb, this climb was to involve an overnight stay at the Illiniza hut at 4700m. Adele was amazed how versatile the Gregory Inyo pack was enabling her to carry a sleeping bag and food for the overnight hut stay. But not only that her ice axe and crampons were easily carried on the rucksack, the extendable lid proved invaluable. And even when loaded with 18kg of equipment, the pack was very comfortable. Designed for ladies, Adele no longer struggled with straps jumping off her shoulders or a rucksack too high to bend her neck!
After the night at the hut Adele ascended Illiniza under deep snow. Following Illiniza Norte Adele went onto climb Cayambe (5790m) and attempt Chimborazo (6310m) where the team unfortunately had to turn around at 6100m. Now back in the UK Adele is off to Scotland with her Gregory Inyo pack to test it to the rigors of Scottish Winter Mountaineering. “Thank you Bramwell International, fantastic kit”.
