The rolling Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire recently hosted the latest “On the Hill” training day for a select group of outdoor retailers.
Those attending were drawn from many different parts of the country, including: Hereford, Abingdon, Reading, Milton Keynes, Rutland, Amersham and Great Dunmow in Essex. All attending came to learn more about Meindl footwear, Gregory packs and Source hydration.

Following the classroom sessions, which included videos and hands-on presentations, all present, then enjoyed a detailed and very informative talk from Cathy Rose of the Chilterns Conservation Board, who explained how the now iconic Red Kite bird of prey was successfully reintroduced to the area.
Yes, the Red Kite is the big hovering bird you see as you travel along the M40 near Oxford. Apparently, road kill is a favoured delicacy.
After lunch, all were kitted out with Meindl boots and socks, a Gregory rucksack and Source hydration system to test on the adjoining Chilterns, with Cathy as the local guide in search of the Red Kite. A leisurely afternoon walk was enjoyed on what turned out to be a fantastic sunny day, and yes, we saw plenty of Red Kites.
