Quality and comfort has always been the guiding principle of the Meindl family when it comes to the manufacture of their footwear. For over 300 years, Meindl have been making handmade boots from locally sourced quality products in their home town of Kirchanschoring in Bavaria, southern Germany.

Today, traditional craftsmanship and knowledge is used in combination with modern manufacturing techniques, which has meant that Meindl has grown from being a small local shoemaker to a major global brand. Over this time the Meindl family has developed working relationships with many experts and pioneers within the industry, including W.L. Gore Industries.

This year Meindl are celebrating a 35 year working partnership with W.L Gore. Back in 1981, Thorger Hubner (W.L. Gore) and Alfons Meindl started to develop the first shoe, lined with the new GORE-TEX waterproof and breathable membrane. This was an industry first and a relationship that continues to develop to this day. “What Meindl and Gore have in common is that neither of them is ever entirely satisfied with what they have achieved, both continually striving through their commitment to innovation to set new standards in the highly functional footwear market. Today’s and tomorrow’s consumers expect optimum comfort and protection for their outdoor activities – our common goal is to fulfil these expectations”, says Christian Langer (Global Fabrics Leader at W.L. Gore).

Meindl manufacture footwear for many different markets worldwide including the outdoor leisure sector, hunting, military, police and forestry. Currently, Bramwell International Ltd, the UK and Ireland importers of Meindl footwear, distribute two extremely popular chainsaw boots – the Woodwalker GTX and Airstream GTX. Both these boots have secured their place in the forestry sector and are proving to be very popular with users and, yes, both these boots have the benefit of a GORE-TEX membrane.

The Woodwalker GTX or Waldlaufer is our traditional looking chainsaw boot. Durable mountain leather for the uppers combined with the GORE-TEX membrane protect your feet from the harsh elements. Safety features include a steel toe cap and Kevlar frontal protection to Class 1. This is a great fitting boot and easy to look after with a waxed finish. Additionally, for added comfort, the Woodwalker has a Memory Foam fit to the heel area for that custom feel fit.

Our other boot in our forestry range is probably the industry’s current favourite boot. The Airstream GTX has been developed from our mountain walking range. So is lightweight and easy to wear all day. This boot also incorporates a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane and in addition, offers wearers 33% more breathability than a standard GORE-TEX boot. This is achieved through the honeycomb style tongue which allows cooler air to be drawn into the boot and warm air and moisture to pass out of the boot. Plus, it comes in red what more could you want to stand out from the crowd?
